2023 will be a year for natural materials, warm earth tones, and personalising your home with unique creative concepts. We have analysed trend predictions as suggested by experts in materials, lighting, furniture, and colour to compile our top 10 2023 interior design trends you’ll love. Read below to give your home a 2023 facelift.
1. Second-Hand Furniture
With the cost of living rising and people becoming more conscious of their carbon footprint. The way in which we shop is set to adapt towards sourcing more second-hand furnishings or even antiques. Not only is this better for the environment but you can end up with furniture that is more unique and in under half the price. You can find great deals on second-hand furniture on Facebook marketplace, Gumtree or your local charity shop. Why not give your new second-hand furniture a new lease of life with a splash of paint to suit your existing decor or change the handles to make it look like a completely new piece?
2. Eco Living
Eco/sustainable living will be a big trend for 2023 with lots of people looking at their home waste and where they source their home interior accessories and furnishings. Understanding where your items have come from and how they are made can give you a great sense of calm in your home, ultimately impacting your wellness. Look out for companies using recycled materials and using natural minerals in paints and cleaning products. Supporting local businesses is also a great way to keep up with the eco-living trend.
We have listed some of our favourite UK-based ethical home furnishing companies below.
3. Bright White kitchens
Due to the amount of time we have spent in our homes over the last three years, designers are predicting the return of bright all-white kitchens for a fresh transformative aesthetic. This trend is so easy to adopt and has a classic timeless finish that is not only great for creating a calm atmosphere, but also a neutral option if you want to sell your home in the future. You can easily transform your kitchen by painting your cabinet fronts, applying white marble vinyl to your counters, and adding clean white splashbacks. Creating light and airy spaces will extend not only in your dream kitchen but throughout your home to accommodate a calm state of mind for the coming year.
4. Country Style
The country style enforces the eco-living trend and way of life. It is a reflection of people looking for a connection with nature and back-to-basics living. You will find more butler sinks in kitchens, light neutral colour schemes, rustic woods, natural materials, and shaker-style cabinets. If you have the space, a rustic big kitchen table or island is the perfect way to complete your country-style kitchen.
5. Colour Palettes
The predicted hues of 2023 are somewhat contrasting. Most interior designers and paint companies lean towards neutral earth-based tones whereas Pantone has opted for a daring deep pink. Depending on your style, there is a way to combine both of these styles by sectioning out the spaces of your home. Why not add a feature wall using Pantone’s colour of 2023 Viva Magenta or keep the walls neutral with a pop of colour in your furnishings such as a rug or pillows?
6. Natural Materials
Terracotta and stone will be popular in 2023 with their warming properties and rustic finish. You can incorporate these materials on your floors, and walls or use terracotta as house plant pots. Natural woods will also be very popular, so if you are lucky enough to have beams in your house or a wooden fireplace, sand them back for a refreshed natural touch.
7. Hobby Rooms
Rooms specifically set out for your hobbies will become very popular, with more people having side hustles. Whether you are looking for an area to set up your easel or a room designated to your records, it provides a place separate from your living area to express yourself. This room can have a completely different feel and design from the rest of your home. It’s important to consider colour schemes in hobby rooms, think about your activities in this room, and research colours and their phycological impacts before committing. Calm neutral shades are a good option for hobby rooms so they don’t clash with your crafts or records. If you are creating a room for crafting organisation storage is very important. We have included a few of our favourite ideas below.
8. Gorgeous Gold
Gold is here to stay. You will see more gold featured as light fixtures, door furniture, taps, shower heads and more. Gold adds a level of sophistication to your interior design and compliments neutrals and white kitchens as well as deeper dark blue, black or dark green kitchens. If you really love gold you could even add a gold splashback to your kitchen as a luxury feature piece.

9. Biophilic Design
Although Biophilic design was a big trend in 2022, it’s set to stay in 2023 and be a prominent interior trend that many people will center their homes with. Choosing the right plant for your space is important, many can get too large and overpower your space or not make enough of an impact. Before buying plants make sure you research their properties and where they like to be placed to ensure they are right for your home. Spider Plants and Peace Lillies are a great place to start, they suit both high-activity living room spaces and bedrooms as they have air-purifying qualities and are easy to look after.
10. Curves and Archways
Curves within the home will be a popular trend in 2023 to soften our homes and add a unique feature. You can achieve this aesthetic in a variety of different ways varying in difficulting and DIY ability. The easiest way to incorporate curves is to paint a feature wall using curved designs or an arch to place a shelf on. If you are looking to update your coffee table or dining table, why not opt for a round table, not only do they fit more people around, but you will never knock into a sharp corner. If you are confident at DIY or have a trusted builder, incorporating rounded arch doorways creates a fresh modern feel.
